Summary:
The Safety Manager position includes ensuring that all Dredge America project sites are operating safely and that a safety-first culture is always maintained. This individual will lead the safety initiatives at Dredge America as part of the Project Support Team, with assistance from the HR Manager and VP of Operations.
Primary Role:
A Safety Manager’s focus is on jobsite safety and ensuring Dredge America is in compliance with all applicable safety regulations and standards. Below is a list of the primary duties that will be covered under this role.
· Manage and enforce safety programs that company with OSHA, MSHA, and other applicable safety regulations and standards.
· Perform regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures.
· Respond to safety incidents, near misses, and concerns on all project sites.
· Lead and perform incident investigations and root cause analysis to help prevent them from occurring again.
· Manage and track workers comp or injury cases with Dredge America’s employees and carriers. Work closely with the HR Manager and VP of Operations for these tasks.
· Assist HR Manager with post-incident drug testing and project specific safety background checks.
· Promote a safety-first culture at Dredge America.
· Manage Dredge America’s relationship with our third-party safety vendor Core Safety.
· Coordinate and lead safety stand-downs to address safety concerns from our own incidents of others that took place in the industry.
· Manage the HCSS safety platform, safety meetings, JHAs, and safety program.
· Deliver training sessions on safety policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance to all employees. This includes onboarding training for all new hires and annual training at the Company meeting.
· Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training activities. This includes OSHA logs and MSHA records.
· Willingness to work with the project team and site leaders to implement new safety measures in the project planning and execution process.
· Create and review site-specific safety plans for each project.
· Track and ensure all employees have the required safety certifications.
· Communicate regularly with the Project Support and Operations Team on how we can better improve upon safety.
· Ensure all project sites have safety boxes, proper PPE, and safety supplies.
Daily tasks for this role may change day to day depending on critical time sensitive items that may arise without warning. Communication within the management team will be vital in this role. Flexibility and adaptability will be key to succeeding in this position.
This individual will work 8 am to 4 pm, Monday-Friday, in the office. Additional work hours, travel, and weekend work will be required for this position.
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in safety management or 5 years of safety experience in the construction industry.
· Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA and other applicable safety regulations.
· OSHA 30 required.
· Additional Safety Certifications are a plus.

Other:
· Travel is required.
· Work special hours as required. This may include overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
· Valid driver’s license and clear driving record.
· Comfortable around water.
· Ability and willingness to work outdoors and in various weather conditions.
· Ability to walk, stand, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, sit, climb, work in challenging environments and on uneven surfaces, and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials (up to 50 pounds)
