Working under the immediate direction of a qualified licensed Staff Pharmacist to gain the practical experience that will enable the pharmacist graduate intern to meet the needs of patients and customers upon graduation in states that offer Intern Pharmacist Licenses. Essential Job Functions include receiving incoming orders from healthcare providers; verifying the legality and pharmaceutical feasibility of dispensing a drug based on patients’ allergies, incompatibilities with current medications, frequency of refills, etc.; interpreting prescription orders, including exercising professional judgment in determining whether to dispense a particular prescription; compounding IV, topical, and oral medications; preparing medications for final dispensing to the patient, including filling, order entry, and packaging; transferring prescriptions to other pharmacies as needed; answering questions from patients, doctors, nurses, etc.; evaluating inventory levels and placing orders when below par; looking up most cost-effective product to order on exception items; notifying customer/facility if product is out of stock and when the order can be filled; restocking station supplies as needed; and other essential functions and duties as assigned. Education and/or Certifications required include High School Diploma or GED, currently enrolled in Pharmacy school with status of good standing, and Current Intern Pharmacist License (when applicable). Skills and Qualifications include 1+ years of related experience, advanced computer skills with pharmacy operations system experience preferred/required, ability to work independently and deliver to deadlines, ability to solve problems with minimal direction, great attention to detail and accuracy, ability to excel in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment working on multiple tasks simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines, and quality mindedness motivated to seek out errors and inquire when something appears inaccurate. Work environment requires ability to work flexible hours.
